KC in Crain's

posted Jan 22, 2009 link

Our own Alexis was interviewed in this week's Crain's Chicago Business. Read about KC's expansion and why many are finding our services valuable during tough financial times. From Crain's:

Alexis Frankfort, co-owner of local food-industry incubator Kitchen Chicago, says the recession hasn't curbed her appetite for expansion.

Demand to rent space at her firm is increasing, and the poor economy is actually providing a lift, Ms. Frankfort says. Some clients have postponed plans to move into their own facilities because financing is difficult to secure, and they have continued to rent space at Kitchen Chicago. Others have come on board after losing their full-time jobs and deciding to start a business.

New Year, New Space

posted Jan 21, 2009 link

We're kicking off 2009 with some exciting news: Kitchen Chicago is expanding into a new, bigger space! After four years at our original location, and a good year of searching, we've found a great space with plenty of room for both our clients and KC to grow at 324 N. Leavitt.

Build-out has already started, and we expect the new kitchen to be ready in March. Meanwhile, our original kitchen will continue to be available during the transition. We'll be announcing more over the next few months, but look forward to:

  • two full, 500 sf kitchens
  • a separate, temperature-controlled 200 sf chocolate room
  • abundant storage and equipment space
  • a large walk-in freezer and cooler
  • a beautiful, 2000+ sf, lofted event space
  • views of the Chicago sky line
  • plenty of parking
  • easy access to I-290 and I-90, and close to suppliers
  • plus, of course, all the conveniences you've come to expect

Update 3/8: As happens with these things, our new cautiously optimistic goal is for a mid to late April opening. We should have a better idea in another week or two.
